As expected from Wilderness Systems. Very pleased with the two I purchased. My family plans to get many years of kayaking from these superbly made boats.

I have 2 of them that the thin flimsy seat pan broke inside 2 months on both where the seat rest spine meets the seat pan bottom . Wilderness systems needs to reinforce this and use better quality materials . i have kayaks and paddled for over 20 years and this is from normal care and use .

Beware of shipping! Not sure who’s fault but when it arrived it had a huge dent in the front top/side which I was able to turn into a small dent using my car jack. Sadly I didn’t notice until I unpacked it 2 weeks later. First use seemed fine though. Hoping to be creative and get more of the dent out but time will tell. Would have received another star without the mishap.

This is a great kayak and I’m super pleased that we purchased the Wilderness Pamlico 145 over the Old Town Twin Heron. It is much roomier for us along with our 70 lb. Goldendoodle who was also super excited when I did a demo sit with her. I’m giving it four stars because it arrived without one of the front foot braces and we had to call the company to get it sent to us so we could install it. I was very nervous upon seeing the holes and missing foot brace but the customer service team at Wilderness responded immediately and the part was sent within a week and it was very easy to install. The world is not perfect and someone in quality control at the manufacturer missed a step. As far as the overall condition, it arrived on a flat bed truck, nicely packed with bubble wrap and cardboard and not a single scratch on the boat. This is direct from the manufacturer and they want you to be happy so this was a good purchase for us.

This product is very poorly made for the amount of money it cost! Also as most can confirm, these will be damaged during shipping!

I read a lot of reviews of this boat before I bought mine. I’m not sure if many of those reviews were really for the pamlico 145t I purchased. I find the 550 lb capacity to be about right and the initial stability to be very good. The secondary stability is rock sold. It has a shallow arch bottom with nice rounded chines and two molded in structural stiffeners that run along the keel line to keep the bottom from “oil canning”. The bow has a pretty sharp entry angle for a rotomolded boat, and it has a sleek stern so it is a pretty efficient boat. It also has a pretty good amount of rocker in the keel so I ordered a rudder kit before I even took it paddling the first time. I think it needs a rudder for open water unless you plan to stay close to where you put it in but it should be easy to maneuver in a tight stream without one. Haven’t tried it on moving water yet but I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t handle as I expect it to. I think there are a lot of nice shorter tandem boats available and this is one of them if not one of the better ones.
Update: I’ve had this boat for a few months now and we’re had it out a few times. We’ve paddled with others that were in a variety of recreational kayaks and tripping canoes and we’ve found this boat to be pretty efficient, as in, we had to lilly dip a lot so we weren’t always way ahead of our friends. It’s also very responsive to the rudder so I’m sure it would be tricky to keep on track without the rudder. Glad I put a rudder kit on the boat. I am a much stronger paddler than my wife so we got this so we could range a little farther than we could in our solo day touring kayaks. If we had gotten it just to go for little paddles with our dog, it probably would be fine without the rudder.
