Well it definitely brings the tackiness out and makes it even easier to grip. My hands are average and I didn’t have any trouble throwing this ball anyways. I bought my football from Dick’s sporting goods so I could inspect it and make sure I got a good one. Very pricey but so worth it! Your using a professional game ball that was made right here in America. It doesn’t shine like it does on tv but very easy to grip and when the snow is no longer on the ground I’m going to see if it eliminated the red dye problem. The only qualm is I had to use another leather brush because the bristles on the Wilson brush became stiff and started scuffing the ball.

Habe zu Weihnachten 2015 den aktuellen NFL Spielball, Wilson “The Duke”, bekommen.
Ich wusste damals leider nichts davon das man den Ball extra noch bearbeiten muss vor der verwendung. deswegen waren am anfang meine hände nach jedem training rot, was sehr störend war. noch dazu hatte der ball überhaupt keinen grip, außer man hat sich in die hände gespuckt oder handschuhe verwendet. noch dazu war die oberfläche meines balles sehr glatt durch nutzung im regen und das trocknen des balles.
Nun hab ich dieses prep kit von wilson entdeckt und was soll ich sagen.. ein paar mal mit der bürste und diesem wachs drüber und der grip is abnormal gut! es ärgert mich sehr das ich dieses zeug nicht schon früher entdeckt habe!
kann jedem mit einem lederball das Ball Prep Kit empfehlen! es verbessert den grip um ein 1000 faches!

I’ve used other products in my youth to condition leather (ball gloves, footballs, etc – neatsfoot oil). I was given a beautiful leather football for Christmas (at the age of 60!) and noticed it was a bit slippery out of the box. Thanks to the wonders of you tube I came across the modern way to break in and protect leather footballs with this Wilson kit. Following the instructions with the kit and online, I now have a deeply coated darkened tack-tical leather ball. A can “palm it” with two fingers…any two where as even after rubbing the factory coating off with multiple toweling and warm rags, I still couldn’t pick it up with one hand.
I like the final color achieved and have applied 3 treatments after allowing a day or two between fir the wax/oils to soak into the new brushed leather and seams. The wax protects the sewn threading as well. When I’m ready to go throw, I just give the ball a few mins of brushing and the tack comes back, ready for some hail Mary’s and tightrope one handers! Nothing else compares.

I was very hesitant to spend $20 plus bucks on wax/brush for an official NFL ball that I was already paying a lot for, but now I know I made the right choice in buying this product.
Aesthetics:
The official NFL ball is beautiful. However, the ball you’ll get and the ball you’ll see on television do not look the same. The television ball is generally darker and shinier than a “stock” ball, which is much lighter and not shiny. This product has made my ball look a lot more like the ball I see on television.
Tact:
The difference between a pre-waxed and post-waxed official NFL ball, in terms of tact, is night and day. The ball out of the box is slippery in comparison. With the wax, I can do full force pump fakes with no worries. I couldn’t do that with the ball right out of the box.
Downside:
For the few days I owned the ball without applying the wax, I could pick up the ball around the house, have it laying around my bed and not worry at all about a mess. While I don’t think it will be messy if I did now, I’m still less willing to pick it up and hold it because I would have to wash my hand after to get some of the wax off.
