Action on the guitar seemed too high, so I took the guitar to a Yamaha dealer to have the action lowered. According to the repair technician, the guitar “had problems”. The neck was warped and twisted, and could not be repaired. Apparently this was one Yamaha that escaped quality control at the factory. I returned the guitar and got my money back. The return process and reimbursement were quick and easy. Amazon replaced my money almost instantly. I think this was just one of those unfortunate incidents where something slipped through the inspection process at the factory without being caught.

So I received this Yamaha CG162C classical guitar and I have to say I’m very impressed. The build quality, fit, finish etc are very good. This is a very pretty guitar, but more importantly the sound is remarkable for a guitar at this price. I first inspected the guitar for any obvious problems (none to be found) and I let the guitar sit for a day so it could adjust to my homes temperature and humidity. I then tuned the guitar. A few reviews said the action is too high, at least in the case of my guitar the action is the correct height for a classical guitar. Now if you are familiar with an acoustic or electric guitar the action on this or any classical guitar will seem too high, but this is intentional and really is needed for the type of playing that can be done on a classical guitar. Correct intonation is probably the most important thing for good sound and playability. I checked the intonation at the 5th, 7th and 12th frets of all 6 strings and it’s nearly perfect! Very few low priced 4 or 6 stringed instruments can say that. Overall this is a very well built and thought out classical guitar at any price. It’s well worth buying, but if your budget is very tight your best bet is probably the Yamaha C40ii. Just my two cents, I hope this helps some people.

I returned this guitar because the D string buzzed at many notes.
Before I ordered the guitar from Amazon, I tried our local Shar Music and was told that they stopped carrying Yamaha Guitars because of quality issues. I did not believe them. Unfortunately, I have to agree with them now.

This is a high quality classical guitar but at a decent price. I am not a classical player, I use it mostly to practice on and learn new fingerpicking songs. The nylon strings are very easy on the fingers and the wide fretboard makes learning new songs with difficult finger positions much easier. The sound is good quality.
