I am extremely pleased with my CG182S classical guitar. Sounds great. Materials and construction are excellent. It’s pretty to look at and sounds very full and rich. I don’t know what else you could ask for in a sub $500 guitar. In my opinion Yamaha guitars are one of the best values available.

This is a fine musical instrument. I’ve been playing it every day since I bought it in April 2013; it still looks great and sounds better with each passing month.

I’m an amateur and didn’t want to pay a lot so relied on a friend who is a professional guitarist; this was his recommendation. Before buying I played the Yamaha at a local music store and listened to the sales rep (who is a very good musician) play it. I was immediately taken with the sustain and resonance. The guitar also has an authentic, solid feel, even to my relatively small and untrained hands. It has a natural finish with rosewood back and sides and a classy black ebony fingerboard. The rosette is a mosaic design, the hardware is gold with mother of pearl tuners. Some statistics of possible interest: Body depth: 3.7-3.94″, Nut width: 2.05″, String length: 25.6″

My friend, who is expert in guitars, assures me the Yamaha CG182S is comparable to guitars costing two or even three times as much. Sometimes I will sit quietly and play a single open string just to hear the sound of the tonal vibrations. For those who may not know, “CG” stands for “classical guitar” and S for the solid European “spruce” top. At the time of my purchase, only spruce was available. Guitar enthusiasts debate the merits of spruce vs. cedar. I can only speak from personal experience; this spruce top guitar plays and sounds great.

Yamaha has been in business since 1887 and is the largest manufacturer of musical instruments in the world. Yamaha got to be the largest by making low cost quality instruments for a long period of time. It’s a proven product.

This is a fine musical instrument.

The picture was misleading. The product did not include any accessories, and the case was a soft case. The guitar itself was fine.

At this price point, this is as good or better as other comparable brands that you can find in large guitar stores. The build is flawless, action is low and sound is clean and crisp, especially with a new set of strings.

It looks like you get a case and some other things with this guitar. You only get the guitar, A little misleading. That said it is a beautiful instrument. Mine arrived in perfect condition. Sounds great.

I checked out several guitars and am so glad I found this guitar! Yamaha quality is nice but in cedar top, the notes weren’t clear on the high and low notes. Also, the action at the higher frets was too high with no way to adjust the guitar. On the spruce top, the note clarity is good throughout while the sustain, while not as rich as the cedar, is still very good. The issue at higher frets is better on the spruce. Yamaha fret boards are a bit narrower which is great as my fingers get older. I also like the hardness and distinct note sound of the ebony board. I’m an intermediate player.

The instrument arrived in perfect condition. It’s factory-made in China, but there’s a lot of hand work involved in the manufacture, and the fit and finish of the guitar are perfect. Intonation is excellent, the sound quality is excellent, and the playability (string tension and action height) also excellent. Yamaha has mastered the art of mass-producing high quality musical instruments, and this is a terrrific guitar for the price. Would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Got an ’05 MIT (Made in Taiwan) model in Tel Aviv. Reportedly, Yamaha made these with thinner poly urethane finishes back in the day. As new, this guitar had a huge sound and rivaled my other classical guitar in the +$1K range. Build and action is very clean and to date, it still sounds good for a spruce top guitar. Spruce tops will turn amber over time and peak at about 7-10 years. String it with good standard or better yet- high tension strings and you’ll be surprised. I even managed to dent the top accidentally. Used the luthier’s trick of placing a piece of wet (water) folded/doubled cotton flannel rag on the soundboard. Lightly, carefully rolled a hot soldering iron back/forth over the flannel covering the dent and the steam pulled it right out. Voila- you can barely see damage as the wood fibers were straightened.
