I really like the way this guitar plays and sounds. It has crisp tones, good intonation, good volume dynamics, and good sustain. I am very happy with the quality of the construction. The finish is terrific, and the quality of the woods used is very good. I like that it has a truss rod hidden under the nut unlike most classical guitars I’ve owned. My only gripe is that it didn’t come well setup right out of the box. Mine in particular had a high action and needed the nut and saddle shaved down a bit. Other than that I would recommend this guitar to anyone who wants a quality solid top classical guitar on a budget.

Edited Dec 2023:
Some of the featured I originally mentioned are still valid (craftmanship, esthetics), but unfortunately this guitar does not sound very good. Even after a few months of break-in period (assuming that can make any difference) the sound is not nearly as clear and crisp as you would expect from a spruce top at this price point. A similar, lower end, Yamaha spruce top that I gave to my son sounds so much better than this one.The highs especially are a bit muffled, and the tuning becomes way off as you travel down the fretboard (more than other guitars I own). I wish I could return it.
This review is for the cg192s. One reviewer writes about a rod, but this classical guitar has no rod, like most classical guitars.
************************** Finish is perfect and esthetically pleasing.

I am in my 5th year with the Yamaha Cg192s and its a good built guitar. It comes with yamaha light tension strings. I use medium tension Daddario ej45 strings with a large hand and I tune one step down and the strings last me a long time and sounds great. In standard tuning medium tension for me is more difficult to play and I am in my late 50s with a small injury to my hand. I suggest keeping the light tension strings for easier play ability in standard 440 tuning if this is what you like. I have changed the bridge and nut to graph tech. The Yamaha Cg192s does come with a truss rod behind the nut but i did not glue it on to the guitar. It still tunes good with the graph tech nut but probably would have better tuning stability if it were glued in tight. String height is some what high but you get no string buzzing. Hope this helps,Thanks Have A Great Day!!!!

I love this guitar! I chose the Yamaha because I wanted an intermediate classical guitar to practice with. I enjoy the look, feel, and sound so much that I see no reason to upgrade to a more expensive guitar in the future. You can’t beat the quality at this price.

I bought a “like new” guitar for less than half the price. This guitar craftmanship is a bit below the Cordoba C9 that I bought, and the sound is also inferior even though on a scale of 10, I would give it an 8. Cordoba C9 is $860 while this Yamaha is about $600.
I would strongly recommended this guitar for classical beginner level as well as for other usage.

I purchased it a month ago and am playing since. It had a “solid top” tag on it when it arrived. I do not see much problems with it. It plays fine; it is small & light and well-made. It was a bit high in action but not a big problem. I did not have a chance to compare with other classical guitars. I do not hear any plastic scratchy noise or feel a lack of resonance. Nice guitar! I will recommend Yamaha CG192s to my friends.
East Coast Man –
Nice sound and finish but watch out for the guitar’s neck! There appeared to be a slight twist on the neck of the one I received. The action is a little bit high, but this can easily be fixed. The twisted neck is a deal breaker for me (for some people this may not be a problem)
