We we’re very excited to receive the Yamaha 1/2 size classical guitar in time for Christmas. Yamaha is known for their quality craftsmanship and attention to detail in each of their instruments. However, once opened – the guitar we received had lacquer / stain issues near the sound hole. The smudges would not wipe away. Also the stain tone along the fret board is inconsistent on each side. One side is well dark while the other side transitions from dark to light. Very disappointing quality for a first instrument and a present. We hope to work with Amazon on getting a replacement Yamaha 1/2 size guitar with better finish quality.

Sounds is lovely, and my son’s guitar teacher praised the brand: “Everything Yamaha makes is great.” It’s pretty easy to tune, and once the nylon strings finish stretching it stays in tune pretty well. Nylon is MUCH easier on little fingers and the guitar is less loud than steel strings. I got one of these for a 7 year old and one for a 9 year old, both big for their age – apparently when starting out it is better to err on the side of small with the guitar.

This is a very nice little instrument. It strikes a perfect balance between quality and economy. I have owned may guitars and some much more expensive than this one do not stay in tune as reliably. The size is just right for my 9 year old to learn on and it is a real instrument rather than a toy, so a great guitar to begin learning on. Service was fast and though I routed it to an old address, the seller was willing to send a note to that address advising them of the mis-shipment. Good customer service even though the error was mine.

Well built guitar. Fit and finish are fair… can’t expect much better for a guitar in this price range. The action will need lowering. I have never been disappointed in any Yamaha guitar that I’ve ever purchased over the years. They have proven to be well built and dependable.

UPDATE:: This guitar has been a joy to play. I installed an undersaddle pickup very easily and I have fun running it through a multi-effects unit. It is much easier to play than steel strings. The shorter scale letโ€™s the young ones play easier, and it is great for the older folks as well.

I began researching guitars when my son asked for one for Christmas. I found a lot of “toy” guitars but review after review said that they wouldn’t stay in tune or didn’t work well. I ended up purchasing this guitar and it’s wonderful. It has a nice sound to it, stays in tune well and is basically a real guitar that’s half size as opposed to a toy guitar.

The one thing I would caution you about is that this guitar is truly 1/2 size, so it’s not meant for little-little kids. It’s a perfect guitar for a 7 or 8 year old but it’s too big for kids under that age.

Been playing electric for a decade, wanted to try out a nylon for some time but didn’t want to approach what I’ve spent on my electric setup. Totally worth it. Sounds really good for $120. Good quality too. I bought it with an eye to my daughters future, so when she gets a little older she can learn on the smaller size while I play along with my full size Alvarez. Really easy action, and to all you people who say it doesn’t stay in tune, thus is the nature of nylon strings. And honestly it only ever goes slightly flat after hours of play. Sounds good in alt tunings, I’ve taken it to drop C tuning and it sounds just as good as E standard and everything in between.

It’s a beautiful guitar. For the price, it’s a good buy! Last I played the guitar was 50 years ago. This one is just right for me.
Of note, the edge of the frets is a bit rough (smooth it out a bit more) and fifth string goes out of tune every 5 or so songs.. but these are minor issues. Overall a 5 star half guitar!!

It arrived quickly and in perfect condition. Although it was purchased as a beginner guitar for a 7-year old, I find it fun to play. The small size makes it easy to practice those awkward finger stretches and I imagine it would be easy to travel with. After tuning it a few times (strong young plucking on new strings), it seems to hold its tuning nicely and the sound is great.

I had initially purchased a guitar that was half the price but it was going out of tune every time I played so I decided to buy this more expensive guitar for my son. When I first played the guitar it was amazing and the quality was great. Although, it had one issue, the nut that was holding the low E string had a space that was too large for the string and it wasnโ€™t holding the string tight. This caused a clicking sound because the string would slip side ways across the nut. I am exchanging for another one because the quality is very good and other than the issue I just mentioned, the guitar sounds amazing like an adult size guitar.
UPDATE: now the second guitar I received has a chip on the edge of the body but the nut does not have the same issue as the first guitar. Iโ€™m going to try to exchange for another guitar since I still like the product if it comes with no defect.

I must admit, I purchased for my son and ended up using it as a practice guitar – great sound, great action – quality product.
