Amazing! I can practice my trumpet in my condo without disturbing the neighbors. Love the adjustable reverb and mic settings. So worth it.

I really enjoy using this practice mute and audio system with my Horn! I play a few Yamaha horns such as a 314 single F Horn, a Yamaha 567 intermediate, and a Custom 87 horn. This Silent Brass mute is great for when I donโt want to fill the apartment with my sound and want to work on repertoire for upcoming auditions and staying in shape on my instrument.
Yamahaโs silent brass allows you to listen with your headphones of choice and I like to use my AirPods Max because of the noise cancelling features. These two make an excellent setup for working on intonation with a drone, where I can use both a Dr Beat DB90 and listen attentively to where I am in relation to the relative pitches.
I also find that once I have practiced on this mute that once I play with my right hand in the bell, I can allow my right hand to do the adjusting of the horns pitch and color a lot better. Since I have more resistance with the mute and do all of my practice in my apartment. When I want to I can just take out the mute and play stopped horn better as well. Since I am used to the added resistance!
Lastly, the only downside to this system is the price is quite expensive and thankfully my brother gave me this as a gift because he didnโt want to get a noise complaint from our other tenants. Which is understandable and respectful. So if you are deciding on whether or not to get a regular practice mute, I would get this one because the mute that comes with it is very high quality. I can play the pedal notes on this practice mute very well and reach the high notes very well. Even better is that once you have practiced on this mute exclusively for a while, once you play with the right hand in the bell; the entire range will feel effortless and most efficient. Due to again the added resistance of the practice mute but you get the bonus of hearing yourself. You can record on a MacBook or IPhone but will need an adapter for the IPhone, which I should get. Haha.
Yamaha really knocked it out the park on this 2.0 version! Five stars all the way!

Works great, significantly reduces sound and can be used with headphones. Needs 3.5 mm jack which is a bit dated but overall works fantastic for practicing in a small house.

First things first. This product should be called Quiet Brass, not Silent Brass. It does not silence your trumpet. People in the next room will hear you playing. Compared to my other mutes, the Silent Brass is a little quieter than a Harmon mute with the stem removed. That’s pretty quiet and is about what I expected.
The Personal Studio device does a very good job of converting the muted sound back to full spectrum. What you hear in the headphones is pretty much exactly what you would hear unmuted, minus the reverb. I am using this to get my chops back after not playing the trumpet for about 40 years.
But the main reason I bought this was to feed my trumpet audio into my modular synthesizer for further manipulation. I’m routing the headphone output into my synthesizer, and doing various things to mix the trumpet sound with synthesized sounds and effects. It’s working very well and is a lot of fun. I could have done this with a regular mic, but then I’d be bothering my family and neighbors with full volume trumpet playing. And having not played in 40 years, that would be painful for them to listen to. Being able to play muted while sending the full trumpet sound into the electronics is an amazing feat and is worth the price.
As others have noted, intonation in the lower octave is pretty bad, so don’t rely on it to record a perfect melody. The device itself feels a little cheap for the price, and I agree with others that rechargeable batteries would have been preferred. But for now there’s nothing else that does what it does, so I’ll just have to live with replacing batteries periodically.

My son uses this to practice, and now our whole family is happy! My daughter can study, my husband can work, I can think, and my son can practice his trumpet.

Played trumpet from elementary school all through high school and then put it down. Now at age 57 decided to pick it up again. This thing is amazing. You can virtually practice anywhere. My wife is in the other room reading. Not happening without this thing. It sounds excellent. The ear bud that come with it are garbage. Throw them away. Iโm using some nice Bose headphones and it sounds like youโre in a concert hall. Very little preamp noise. Any decent headphones will do though. If youโre on the fence, buy it. You wonโt be disappointed.

I love this device so much. And so does he. We live in an apartment, so he couldn’t practice his trumpet at home. But this little device changed everything. I can still hear a little noise, but it’s really faint. He says he can hear himself playing through the earphones clearly. He says there’s no ear popping. He also says there’s no pressure pushing back when he blows into the trumpet with the mute on. He said most notes sound right, a few notes fall a little flat, but he said that’s not a big deal. So, now he can play anytime he gets inspired. This little device saved the community. BTW, make sure you install batteries because they don’t come with it. I am glad I had a new box of AA batteries so he could try it out right away. This device is worth every penny.
