This thing is amazing. Similar to the bars that are evenly distributed, this item was purchased for the sledgehammer activity. But man, I overshot my own strength and have been struggling to get it over my head. The swinging motion used to get it above my head from the ground works out my core, back, legs, arms, and chest. I used it for 10 minutes and was completely out of breath and sweating and panting like was running for 20. Since the weight is on one side, you can use it as a dumbbell by holding the long black shaft in one hand and curling the heavy black ball with the other. You can also use the thrusting motion of a spear to do a workout instead of the slicing motion of a sword. It’s two different muscle groups but the thrusting in and out is easier than the slicing up and down because of the uneven weight distribution. Also, the swing from top to bottom is still possible, but it’ll be more of a sledgehammer workout than a sword workout. Which is what I wanted in the first place. Definitely recommend a lower weight, 35lbs was just too much weight for a beginner.

I like that the mace targets more muscle groups with one exercise technique. It’s easy to get started with and even with a light weight and a few days a week I am noticing improvement in my upper body strength, especially back and shoulders. It has good grips and I can easily grasp it even with sweaty hands. I’m especially glad it is working my wrist muscles and providing strength training to a full range of motion. I highly recommend this for anyone that has trouble doing a bunch of different sets of exercises with different weights and motions. The only downside to training with this that I can even think of is that it requires plenty of room to be able to freely move around without knocking stuff over, but it really is the only downside that I can come up with to consider. Over all it takes up little space to store and you only need enough space to be able to stand and rotate it around, which does require more space than doing curls or should presses but it gives you a fuller range of muscle group work and that makes it worth it.

I had been looking at Macebells for a few weeks, as I wanted to practice the movement of swinging (sadly our vintage butchers cleaver was too fragile to use) and wanted something robust. I came across these and got stuck into research. I ordered the 4.5kg macebell as it was a good weight recommended by reliable sources.

I’ve used it twice now and love the versatility of the macebell, whether its 360 swings or using it like a shovel. For the price, this was well worth it, it seems well built and the length and feel is great.

The only downsides as everyone else notes is the paint quality as I’ve only used it twice and on lino flooring it sits and js already super chipped. But i don’t really mind as it’s not there to look nice.

The handle length is great and the weight is really good, the handle is quite thick which does make my hands hurt but im sure after time I’ll get used to it.

I have been working out off and on for about ten years. Aggressively at times, but mostly casually. I did endurance lifting and cardio with some strength training in bursts. I figured with me being comfortable with heavy weights(curling 50 lb dumbbells comfortably and benching 100lb dumbbells for full reps) that I should go with the heaviest mace. Luckily, I dialed it back and went with the 25lb. It definitely whooped me at first. I used youtube tutorials to learn basic moves but could barely get through them. Mainly because you have to control each swing or you risk kneecapping yourself or tearing something.

It’s been a month and a half now and with intermittent use, I’m able to control it much more easily and have branched out to more advanced moves. I feel so much stronger. I had hit a plateau at the gym and was having trouble getting motivated again, but maces seem so much more fun and rewarding. My arms have already grown about a 1/4 of an inch and my wife said my shoulders and arms are starting to show more definition. She even ordered a 10lb mace that I use for warm-ups and lighter exercises.

I’ll probably order heavier and lighter maces down the line once I save up more, since I can tell this is a very versatile piece of equipment. It’s definitely helping me think outside the gym and now all I have to do, is walk out in the backyard and start swinging. Just make sure there aren’t any pets or children around you. This thing could do some damage, for sure. Which is probably an added plus for all you zombie preppers out there.

This is a good mace overall.

    Negatives:
My only gripes are fairly small. Upon arrival I noticed this mace had either been dropped or used previously. It had several ding and paint chips on the side. This doesn’t affect use and it’s merely cosmetic but when you pay for new you don’t expect it to be beat up when you buy it. Also the flat face for standing it up was out of alignment soat first I thought the handle was bent. It wasn’t it just looks crooked when standing.

    Positives:
Weight is dead accurate I checked it with my home scale and it’s 20lb on the dot. The knurling for grip is perfect blend of grip so it doesn’t fly out of your hands and smooth for hand switching and transitions.

Overall if your just starting out this is a good mace and the few little issues don’t really take away from the overall value. It’s not a premium mace and it has a few flaws but it will work great for whatever mace work you intend to do.
